Nokia appoints a new Country Manager for Spain in the midst of the artificial intelligence era

Fernando Rionegro

Fernando Rionegro, with over two decades of experience in the ICT sector, assumes executive leadership of the tech giant in the Spanish market. Ignacio Gallego will retain commercial responsibilities and assist in the corporate transition.

Nokia has announced the appointment of Fernando Rionegro as the new Country Manager for Spain. From this executive position, Rionegro assumes the highest representation of the multinational company in the national market with the primary objective of accelerating business growth and strengthening strategic alliances with customers, business partners, public administrations, academic institutions, and the Spanish innovation ecosystem.

The new executive has a professional career spanning over 20 years in the telecommunications and information technology (ICT) sector. During his journey within Nokia, he has held high-responsibility roles in business development, commercial strategy, and key account management. His extensive experience and market knowledge will position the subsidiary strongly to consolidate its operations in the country.

Orderly Transition and Strategic Drive

Rionegro succeeds Ignacio Gallego, who has led Nokia’s institutional and corporate representation in Spain in recent years. Gallego will remain connected to the company’s leadership in the national market, maintaining his commercial area functions and facilitating a smooth transition in the executive team.

This corporate move coincides with a key milestone for the firm: the completion of its 100 years of presence in Spain. A century during which the company has consolidated a diversified critical infrastructure in mobile networks, optical transport, IP architecture, cybersecurity, mission-critical networks for businesses, and industrial digitalization, as well as applied research centers in artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR).

Positioning Ahead of the AI Supercycle

About his new role, Fernando Rionegro emphasized:

"It is an honor to assume the role of Country Manager of Nokia in Spain in the year we celebrate our centenary in the country. This milestone recognizes the work, talent, and dedication of the thousands of Nokia professionals who have contributed to Spain’s technological development.

I hope to continue building on this legacy, strengthen our collaboration across the entire Spanish technological ecosystem, and help prepare Spain for the artificial intelligence supercycle."

With this appointment, Nokia reaffirms its commitment to the Iberian Peninsula as a strategic hub for the development of native digital infrastructures for AI, data centers, and next-generation networks connected globally.
